David Wood's Conversion: A Very Courageous, Very Human Buddhist

ON BECOMING A BUDDHIST

david wood at change your mind day 2007In 1987, when I was thirty, I went to Baker Correctional Prison in North Florida on a forty year sentence for molesting my twelve year old stepdaughter five times.   Child molesters are considered the worst of the worst in prison, and I was harassed endlessly.  Thus, I went to the prison chapel every night for services, which was the one place where people had to accept you even if they knew your crime, or at least act like they accepted you.  Also, I was serious about my Christian faith, and felt I needed to get back on track after such horrible backsliding.

Dharma in Florida Prisons

Jin Bup Rev. Frank Tedesco is continuing to visit prisoners in Florida for both meditation and dharma study. We are able to bring in some teaching materials but we are always in need of good translations of the Dharmapada and other basic texts.

The general prison population is also in need of good things to read, too. Novels, science fiction, biographies, world literature, popular science, art history. All material is inspected by the warden's staff so please do not include  anything illegal or that may inflame inmate passions and dangerous activities!

We have supplied books to Lake CI and Avon Park CI and have mailed many boxes of assorted Buddhist literature around the country. CDs, DVDs and VHS tapes welcome.
